30 Days of Biking
With the COVID-19 Shelter-in-place mandate in full effect as of April 2020, I am beginning to go a little koo-koo. Combined with issues in left knee which prevent me from running long distances, the sedentary life style with limited mobility via shelter-in-place has made me think about other ways to achieve cardiovascular fitness. Also looking for ways to get the hell out of the house while adhering to 6 place social distancing rules. I've decided to explore biking for everyday for 30 days to see its potential impact on my metabolic fitness and overall health and wellbeing. I'm also particularly interested in better understanding my physical limits with long distance road biking since its a lower impact physical activity.
I don't have a particular goal with respect to daily miles logged. Aspirationally I'm seeking 60ish minutes moving time with an average heart rate of 120. Im not looking to "improve my vo2max", although it will be tracked as a by-product of the various fitness trackers I use.

1993 Cannondale H600 Mountain Bike. MSRP in the 90s is approximately ~$2000. I bought it from Good Karma Bikes San Jose for a cool ~$200 with a new seat.
Observations and Results
1. 4/19/20 - 6 days of biking, no noticeable pain in legs or arms. 6 days of running would have produced some type of inflammation in legs or knees.
2. 4/25/20 - Bummer, per the orders of my occupational therapist; eliminate bike riding through end of may 2020. Part of my ongoing activities to help eliminate pain in shoulder/arm here and here. Theory is that the "hunching" position on a mountain/road bike causes tightness in the pec muscles which may trigger a muscle imbalance in the shoulder (e.g. shoulder works too hard) and may trigger downstream implications to arm. Formal guidance: stop performing physical activities which cause tension on pecs. Good gane.
